Tenerife is an island belonging to Spain being part of a group of
islands known as the Canary Islands. Tenerife is the largest member
of this island group. Located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern
coast of Africa. A volcanic mountain Pico de Teide (3718 m high)
occupies a large portion of the island. The volcanically enriched
soil is fertile and local produce include dates, coconut palms,
tomatoes, cotton, fruit, grain, maize, sugar, and grapes. Tourism
is important to the economy. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the largest
city and principal seaport of Tenerife.
Tenerife is the only one of the Canary Islands with two airports.
Los Rodeos airport in the north and Reina Sofia in the south. Transfer
times from the airport: Los Cristianos (20 mins), Playa de Las Americas
(25 mins), Los Gigantes (60 mins) and Puerto de la Crus (90 mins)
